The Donor Research Analyst is responsible for managing and analyzing donor data, producing actionable insights to enhance fundraising efforts, and supporting donor engagement strategies. This role includes creating reports on donor retention and acquisition, researching donor prospects, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of donor portfolios. The Donor Research Analyst supports the Director of Donor Services and serves as part of the Development and Community Engagement Team. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate data findings effectively.

Key Responsibilities

To Serve as a Member of the Development Team :

  • Serve as an excellent teammate, contributing positively to the team environment and culture with a Christ-like attitude.
  • Collaborate with team members to support the Mission's donor engagement and retention strategies.
  • Actively participate in team learning and best practices to enhance data-informed decision-making.

Analytics and Custom Reporting :

  • Prepare monthly reports on key KPIs and department objectives, including donor retention, acquisition, and giving trends.
  • Deliver requested reports to the Development and Community Engagement teams as needed.
  • Create and refine queries in the CRM to track donor engagement and key data points.
  • Partner with external agencies to ensure alignment in reporting trends and reconcile donor data.
  • Analyze and review donor caseloads, providing detailed reports to support effective portfolio management.
  • Donor Research and Caseload Review

  • Review existing caseloads and make recommendations on new major donor or prospect assignments.
  • Conduct detailed research on new and existing donors and volunteers, gathering biographical, philanthropic, and communication details.
  • Identify potential high-value prospects outside the current donor base, including businesses, churches, and foundations.
  • Analyze donor survey results, including but not limited to the MFM annual legacy survey, to identify trends and deliver actionable insights.
  • Map personal, business, and institutional relationships between donors, prospects, volunteers, and others connected to the San Diego Rescue Mission.
  • Donor Data Management

  • Review and manually import donor data from peripheral software into the database, ensuring accuracy and consistency to support data-driven insights.
  • Ensure the accuracy and quality of donor records through regular audits and updates.
  • Work with the Donor Services team to develop and maintain processes that uphold data integrity.
  • Document donor-related research findings and ensure accessibility for appropriate team members.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Donor Services on special projects to optimize the usage of the donor database by frontline fundraisers.
  • Education : Minimum bachelor's degree in data analytics or related field from an accredited institution.

    Experience : Minimum 2 years' full-time work experience in data analysis and data management.

  • The incumbent will work in a shared office space that is generally clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc.
  • The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.
  • The incumbent works in a residential setting, which consists of individuals who may have a mental or physical disability or illness.
  • Physical resources may be limited and, in some cases, are donated.
  • Must work evenings, overnights, weekends, and / or holidays as needed

    Must be on-call or participate in an on-call rotation (if available)
