Since 1983, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP), the county’s oldest and most comprehensive pro bono legal services program, has changed the lives of thousands of indigent and other disadvantaged people, by providing equal access to the justice system. SDVLP’s unique service model serves as a bridge between indigent and other disadvantaged people in San Diego County and the volunteer lawyers and others who are willing to donate their time and resources.
We are excited to announce a new and pivotal opportunity for a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as Development Director. Joining SDVLP at an exciting moment of growth, the Development Director is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy that sustains and grows revenues from a diverse portfolio, including individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies and more. Reporting to the CEO, the Development Director provides strategic direction and leadership for all aspects of the fundraising and marketing program at SDVLP, including special events and communications.
This position will be based out of our office in downtown San Diego.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to support the organization's mission and growth objectives.
- Fundraising Initiatives: Lead and execute fundraising campaigns, grant applications, and donor cultivation efforts to secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Community Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, law firms, community leaders, and potential donors to raise awareness of our mission and expand our network of supporters.
- Event Management: Plan and execute fundraising events, including the annual Justice for All Celebration, and community outreach activities to increase visibility and support for the organization.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the leadership team to align development efforts with organizational goals and contribute to overall strategic planning.
- Oversees communications for the organization, including but not limited to public relations, social media, website content, and earned/paid media.
- Implements and utilizes a donor database/CRM tool, and ensures it is used consistently and accurately to inform data-driven decision making and accounting/audit gift reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We Offer:
- The salary range is $100,000 - $120,000 DOE.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance –100% of the premium for employee medical insurance is paid in full by the employer – eligibility for health care coverage is the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit development, with a proven track record of successful fundraising.
- Strong knowledge of San Diego's philanthropic landscape.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Passion for social justice and a commitment to the organization's mission.
- Ability to work out of our San Diego office 5 days per week.
