What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Counsel position at Sanford Rose Associates Network?
A fast-growing financial technology company is seeking an experienced, business-minded legal leader to serve as its primary in-house counsel. This is a rare opportunity to join an early-stage, venture-backed fintech platform that is transforming a core segment of mortgage finance through modern SaaS technology.
This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable operating independently, building legal infrastructure from the ground up, and partnering closely with executive leadership. The position is remote-friendly, with the expectation of meeting in person a few times per month in the Denver area.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the company’s primary legal advisor across contracts, corporate governance, regulatory, and compliance matters
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer, vendor, technology, and strategic partner contracts
• Establish and maintain corporate governance practices, policies, and documentation
• Oversee regulatory and compliance matters relevant to a fintech operating in the mortgage and financial services ecosystem
• Support employment and HR-related legal needs in a lean environment using outside vendors and contractors
• Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team on risk management, growth initiatives, and strategic transactions
• Manage and coordinate outside counsel and third-party service providers as needed
Ideal Background
• Senior-level in-house legal experience or a combination of law firm and in-house roles
• Strong experience with commercial contracts, corporate governance, and regulatory/compliance work
• Comfortable working in a startup or high-growth environment with minimal infrastructure
• Self-directed, pragmatic, and able to operate without significant oversight
• Experience in fintech, financial services, SaaS, or regulated industries is a plus
