POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer will lead clients through designed fitness and exercise programs to achieve Health and Wellness goals. The ideal candidate will have the ability to complete assessments of clients and potential clients and be able to design fitness programs accordingly and also adjust to various client needs and fitness levels. The individual must be able to educate and motivate clients to progress towards their health and fitness goals. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to the individual needs of the client, to maximize their fitness success rate.
- Evaluates the current fitness status and needs of members, recommends appropriate goals, and answers questions to support clients in achieving their goals
- Ability to design Fitness programs for clients of various ages and fitness levels.
- Knowledge of fitness training and education methods and techniques, as well as the operation of various fitness equipment in the Wellness Center
- Have a working knowledge of the effects of Nutrition and be able to provide education and guidance to clients to help reach their Health and Wellness goals.
- Ability to guide members through Personal Training options and answer questions and concerns.
- Books and records all client sessions into digital calendar system and redeems sessions accordingly when completed.
- Verify all trainings have been paid for and completion through our Daxko redemption portal. Any trainer that completes trainings that have not been verified through the portal will not be paid for the session
- Must be able to initiate dialogue and build relationships with members on the Wellness floor to build clientele
- Keeps a working knowledge of current fitness trends, and techniques in order to provide support to members
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and its capacity for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours on the Wellness Floor
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Current nationally accredited Personal Training Certification (NASM, ACE, etc.)
- 1 years of Personal Training sales experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience in exercise program design for clients of various ages and fitness levels.
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required within 30 days of hire.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Ability to lift, push and pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
- The noise level is usually moderate to high.

- Employees must maintain a safe work environment free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions.
- Report all accidents/incidents involving themselves, members/program participants, guests or other employees and complete accident/incident reports immediately.
- Follow all COVID-19 safety and protocol guidelines laid out by the SRYMCA, Department of Health, and CDC.
- Be familiar with Emergency Procedures and specific duties assigned to them.
- Be familiar with additional safety responsibilities specific to their position.
