Job Description

Sarstedt, Inc., a leading manufacturer and distributor of laboratory consumables, medical devices, and instruments, is seeking a Field Service Technician to join the instrumentation department. Job Summary


The Field Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing laboratory automation equipment at customer sites. The individual will serve the following areas:


  • Minneapolis, MN
  • Chicago, IL
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • St. Louis, MO
  • Cincinnati, OH


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides on-site installation and repair of SARSTEDT, Inc.'s laboratory automation line.
  • Creates and submits complete service reports to the end-user and Service Manager.
  • Maintains proper inventory of required parts and tools for repair work.
  • Arranges and coordinates travel plans based on customer needs.
  • Demonstrates and explains correct operation of equipment to customers.
  • Other duties may be assigned as apparent or required by management.

Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Electronic or Mechanical Science from a two-year college or technical school; and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, pneumatics, and print reading. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

  • The employee is occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 
  • This job requires more than 75% regional travel, with occasional weekend and/or overnight travel required. The employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
