What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Sauk Centre Public Schools?
Sauk Centre Public Schools is seeking a bus driver. Interested persons must be appropriately licensed in Minnesota and have a good driving record. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Completes pre-trip equipment safety checks inspections.
a) Inspects and makes sure all lights are working properly.
b) Makes sure all mirrors are positioned properly.
c) Ensures proper fuel and oil levels necessary for route requirements.
d) Communicates any problems or operational concerns with Mechanic or
Transportation Director
Transports students to and from school in the morning and afternoon in accordance with predetermined bus routes, scheduled times and pickups and drop offs. Adheres to all safety laws, rules of the road, district policies and procedures, and driving conditions. Conducts post-trip and child care checks after each route has been completed.
Monitors student behavior and provides for an orderly atmosphere on the bus.
a) Initiates disciplinary actions when required according to district procedures and
policies.
b) Enforces all district safety and transportation policies and procedures.
c) Prepares incident reports and/or reports disruptive and inappropriate behavior to
the Transportation Director.
Attends transportation meetings to determine if any routing changes occur. Mails letters to parents of pickup times and drop-off times.
Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.
a) Attends 8 hours of training sessions and/or other training as schedules by the
Transportation Director.
b) Attends any and all transportation meetings.
c) Maintains and keeps up-to-date on all required credentials, license and
endorsement requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma and no prior experience required. Requires a valid MN Class B CDL with a School Bus and Passenger Endorsement, a safe driving record, and MN DOT Health Card/Certificate.
Essential Knowledge And Specialized Subject Knowledge Required To Perform The Essential Functions Of The Job:
- Traffic laws and rules of the road.
- Policy governing student behavior on the bus.
- Knowledge of bus operation.
- Knowledge of the use and location of bus safety equipment, emergency and health procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Sauk Centre area, roads and surrounding area and predetermined bus routes.
Essential Skills Necessary To Perform The Work:
- Safely operating a school bus;
- Driving according to schedule and route times;
- Following and implementing pre-trip and post-trip requirements.
- Monitoring and enforcing rules of conduct for student behavior;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the students, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Work Environment:
Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and a variety of weather driving conditions. Some moderate environmental risks are present due to continuous driving and exposure to a variety of weather, traffic, driving conditions, and student distractions.
