We are seeking a Senior Risk & Safety Consultant to lead strategic risk initiatives that enhance healthcare safety, risk mitigation and compliance. This role delivers expert guidance to physicians, advanced practice professionals, and their practices in event management and risk mitigation efforts while building trusted client relationships. Through data-driven insights, experience, and regulatory expertise, the consultant drives informed decisions and fosters a proactive risk culture across healthcare environments.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the intake process for medical professional liability claims
- Provides risk assessments and advisory services
- Provide expert-level consultation and guidance to clients and stakeholders on risk issues
- Prepare input to help insurance underwriters determine the risk exposure associated with insuring specific healthcare services
- Facilitate meeting preparation, content and analyze and prepare data for the CPP QA Committee
- Work collaboratively with the CPP Claims Committee leader by providing meeting information and data
- Track and trend pertinent information related to claims, loss control, and events
- Lead and manage high-impact risk mitigation initiatives
- Design strategic workflows and initiatives to address identified risk trends
- Use claims and analytics tools to uncover actionable insights
- Serve as the primary contact for clients regarding risk, loss control, and claims management services
- Deliver timely, accurate, and strategic risk advice to support client objectives
- Interpret regulatory requirements (e.g., Department of Health, CMS, HIPAA, The Joint Commission) to identify and mitigate risks related to non-compliance in clinical practice
- Advise clients on mitigating compliance-related clinical and operational risks
- Develop risk management educational tip sheets, tools, articles and resources
- Develop and deliver educational presentations (live, virtual, or recorded)
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulatory changes
- Attend training sessions or achieve assigned certifications
- Other duties as assigned
- Accept delegated tasks willingly and follow through on assignments with accountability and attention to detail
- Support business process optimization and efficiency by identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing solutions as needed
- Provide regular updates to leadership on assigned projects, meeting deadlines and delivering quality results
- Stay flexible and ready to take on additional responsibilities as needed to support team and organizational objectives/other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant clinical field such as nursing, risk management or patient safety is strongly preferred or relevant experience.
- Relevant certifications, such as CPHRM, CPPS, CPHQ preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Risk Manager, Risk Analyst, Patient Safety Officer, or Quality/Performance Improvement
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with expertise in risk assessment, risk mitigation, data analytics, and claims analysis
- Proficiency with risk management methodologies, tools, and workflow development
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and collaborate with healthcare leadership across complex organizational structures and defense litigation attorneys and their teams
- Proven experience in project management and risk mitigation strategy development
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and organize tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement
- Proficient with MS Office applications
