Job Summary
SBC Industries is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Press Brake Operator to join our growing fabrication team. In this role, you'll be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining press brake machinery to produce high-quality sheet metal components that meet tight tolerances and project specifications. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong technical skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to guide and support junior team members. Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and operate CNC press brake machines to bend and form metal according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files to determine material, bend sequences, and required tolerances.
- Select and install appropriate tooling; calculate bend allowances, back gauges, and setups for efficient production.
- Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and angle gauges to ensure quality.
- Train and assist junior operators; act as the go-to resource for technical and process questions.
- Coordinate with fabrication, welding, and laser departments to ensure smooth production workflow.
- Maintain press brake tools and perform routine preventative maintenance on machines to minimize downtime.
- Identify production inefficiencies or quality concerns and implement improvements.
- Uphold safety protocols and ensure a clean, organized work environment.
- Assist in other fabrication tasks and cross-train as needed.
Requirements
- 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC press brakes in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical specs, and bend charts.
- Deep understanding of metal characteristics, bend allowances, tooling applications, and machine settings.
- Familiarity with CNC brake programming (Amada, Cincinnati, Trumpf, or similar equipment).
- Strong problem-solving, mechanical, and math skills.
- Hands-on experience with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and angle finders.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification is a strong advantage.
- Forklift operation experience or willingness to be certified.
- English proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
