Job Summary
This full-time position is located at our office in Columbia Falls, Montana. This position’s primary responsibility is to work closely with project owners, particularly the Montana Department of Transportation, subcontractors, and our employees to ensure contract requirements, construction schedules, and operational expectations are being met. Other responsibilities include contract review/approval, subcontractor administration, environmental permitting/compliance, material scheduling/procurement, quality control, submittal review/compliance, change order justification/negotiation/approval, progress payments, and project finalization. Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential to being successful in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Construction Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Directly responsible for the following aspects of project administration:
- Subcontractor setup, tracking, and payment
- Material procurement
- Create and update project schedules (P6 software experience preferred)
- Environmental permitting and compliance
- Submittal review/compliance
- Progress payment review and approval
- Change order justification/negotiation & approval
- Relationship management
- Project finalization
- Project correspondence, letters to owners and other project stakeholders (e.g. subcontractors, agencies)
- Design review and regulatory compliance:
- Serve as a resource for project specification queries and issues
- Review design documents and construction processes to identify and resolve project constructability issues
- Relationship management:
- Build strong and trusting relationships with project stakeholders, in particular: the Montana Department of Transportation, other project owners, subcontractors and suppliers
- As needed, lead dispute and resolution processes with project stakeholders
Other Requirements
- 5 years of construction engineering experience preferred
- Able to understand plans, specifications, and contracts
- Previous experience with heavy highway contract administration and management is not required but is highly preferred
- Experience using Microsoft Office’s suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook) is preferred
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook
- Promote a team approach and maintain an open and respectful approach to communication with all employees
- Wear appropriate protective equipment: steel-toed boots, hard hats, ear and eye protection when visiting job sites
- A valid driver’s license and a good MVR is required
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Limited travel to our project sites across Western Montana
