Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Animal Scientist to join our team at Schwartz Farms, Inc. as an Animal Scientist - Farrowing. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the preparation of pre-farrow rooms and training and supervising staff to meet standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise, train, and execute proper inducing and farrowing of sows.
2. Execute proper transferring and sizing of piglets.
3. Execute proper split suckling of litters.
4. Perform procedures to identify piglets that require a nurse sow or litter swap.
5. Ensure proper treatment and regular vaccinations of sows and piglets.
6. Perform proper processing and castration of piglets.
7. Manage flow of ideal pigs weaned to nursery.
8. Maintain goals for prewean and stillborn, as established by Unit Manager.
9. Supervise, train, and execute to ensure proper feeding of lactating sows.
10. Advocate and engage in Schwartz Farms' animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Engineering, or related field. One year of swine production experience. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to HR, Schwartz Farms, Inc.
