STUDENT AIDE
(One-on-One Position)
QUALIFICATIONS: Be able to provide proof of High School Diploma or G.E.D. Fluent in sign language a plus. Must possess or be able to obtain an Ohio Department of Education Aide Permit. Experience in working with children with disabilities is preferred. Should possess the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with professionals, parents, children and others. Ability to stimulate and maintain the interest of children. Ability to follow instructions from supervisor and to take appropriate initiative. Must be physically able to lift students and objects up to 50 pounds as necessary. Need valid driver’s license or state ID, reliable and insured transportation. Hiring contingent upon successful drug test and background checks.
JOB DESCRIPTION GUIDELINES: Assists licensed instructor or therapy specialist with assigned student age 5 to 21 with developmental disabilities to (e.g. assists in maintaining classroom environment conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazards), implement daily lesson plans, educational goals and approved behavioral plans consistent with student’s Individual Educational Program; assists in operating equipment and recording responses and efforts; prepares materials needed for instruction; assists student with mobility, physical needs such as positioning, eating, toileting, and getting on and off the bus; assists in social and extracurricular activities. Attends meetings, conferences with student’s family at request of supervisor; attends staff meetings and training sessions. Assists in preparing and maintaining records and reports. Performs miscellaneous duties to ensure the safety and well-being of student on basis of need and/or assigned by supervisory personnel. Working conditions may exist that are not such as normally exist in the occupation of the public employee such as, exposure to blood-borne and air-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, potentially infectious materials, and/or aggressive behavior. As necessary, employee shall comply with safety rules established for the purpose of fulfilling compliance with Ohio Public Employment Risk Reduction Standards, Rules, or Orders, through the utilization of protective equipment and decontamination techniques.
SALARY: $12.73 per hour for up to 5.75 hours per day, 5 days a week during the school year. (Provides services to student in accordance with school calendar’s required days of student attendance.) Paid holidays, calamity days and sick leave. Retirement plan.
