Job Summary The objective of the Post-Secondary Coordinator is to provide coordination support for the apprenticeship programs run by the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) and sponsored by Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI). As the sponsor organization, SHI is responsible for ensuring that the program collects and maintains all necessary data mandated by the Department of Labor. The coordinator will also provide direct support to employers and apprentices within the program to identify and support additional contract hours and scholarship needs. Duties/Responsibilities Host regular meetings with key UAA staff regarding implementation of the apprenticeship program Initiate and maintain a Data Sharing MOA with each participating Employer in the apprenticeship program Notify UAA of new apprentices in accordance with the Strategic Use of Nationally Registered Apprenticeships for Educators (SUNRAE) Apprenticeship Candidate Workflow Collect, track, and document apprentice on-the-job learning (OJL) and competencies. Maintain program database and participant data required by AKDOL. Assist apprentices and employers with accessing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and similar funding to cover tuition, fees, supplies, childcare, etc. for apprentice candidates. Coordinate mentor teacher (journey teachers) training and compensation outside of extended practicum and internship courses Provide other support to Employers, apprentices, and mentor teachers as identified Monitor program activities and ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, policies, processes, and procedures. Review and make recommendations for compliance and improvement, as well as intervene if non-complaint. Keep abreast of regulatory changes and communicate to necessary stakeholders. Required Skills Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Attention to detail and experience organizing and maintaining files. Ability to research and analyze data and produce reports. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize workload and follow through to meet competing deadlines, goals, and objectives. Ability to work effectively independently and as an integral part of a collaborative team. Ability to assess methods to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Experience developing and maintaining internal and external partnerships. Technical capacity and expertise in using spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and languages. Supervisory Responsibility This position will have no direct reports. Work Environment This position’s duties are performed at the Walter Soboleff Building off site for programming activities. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. About this Role This is a full-time benefited position. SHI employees are expected to work during SHI’s regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Additionally, employees may work up to or over 45 hours per week or additional time as needed to meet workload demands or special events such as Celebration. Required Education and Experience Professional work in education or a project related field. Experience working with a diverse group of stakeholders including Alaska Native students and families.
