Summary Of Position

Create transformative genetic therapies for pediatric immune diseases in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Dr. Mara Pavel-Dinu's laboratory seeks an experienced laboratory research scientist interested in hematopoietic cell therapies, gene editing, and translational immunology. The ideal candidate will help to lead a research team focused on studying, developing, and testing novel gene therapy approaches for treating blood and immune disorders (PMID: 38096800, PMID: 30967552, PMID: 39378586, PMID:33712802, PMID: 35773054). The research scientist will be part of a highly interactive, supportive, and inclusive research group, expanding upon our genome editing platform, murine models, and in vitro systems to maximize your potential to achieve high-impact publications and develop therapeutic products. The projects are collaborative and supported by institutional funding.

The newly established research group is part of the Center of Immunity and Immunotherapies (CIIT) of Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI), located in downtown Seattle, a city that is surrounded by lakes, the Puget Sound, and the Cascade and Olympic mountains- a great location for both urban and outdoor adventurers. Job Responsabilities

The ideal candidate will design, execute, and interpret experiments to generate and test pre-clinical models of hematopoietic stem cell-based and immune cell-based therapies in vitro and in vivo (mouse models). The candidate will meet regularly with the PI to discuss research progress and next steps. The candidate will present data at internal and external meetings and contribute to manuscripts, grants, and patents. Under PI supervision, the candidate will also manage and mentor junior scientists, undergraduates, and graduate students.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology, cell culture, assay development, and flow cytometry analysis.
  • Expertise in stem cell biology and immunology is highly desirable
  • Expertise in mouse model-based studies: surgical procedures, anesthesia, injection techniques (IP, IV, SC, IM, and RO), blood collection techniques (tail vein, retro-orbital sinus, saphenous vein, cardio puncture), physiological assessments, behavioral testing, drug administration, transplantation techniques (IF, IH, RO), and end-point FACS-based analyses is highly desirable
  • Immunological techniques (not limited to): immunohistochemistry, cytokine profiling, enzyme-linked immunospot assays
  • Cellular and molecular assays (not limited to): DNA/RNA extraction, purification, cell culture, cytotoxicity assays, cell proliferation, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, and ddPCR are highly desirable
  • Biochemical assays (not limited to): reporter gene assays, enzyme activity assays
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to work collaboratively.
  • Have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills

*Required Education and Experience*

PhD Degree level in applicable science field/related field OR.

Master's Degree in applicable science field/ related field plus minimum three (3) years of related experience OR.

Bachelor's Degree or higher in applicable science field / related field plus minimum five (5) years of related experience with a robust publication record.

Related work experience varies by lab / position, as it relates to the research projects and research field assigned to this position.

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
