Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Annual Giving Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating a comprehensive annual giving program that incorporates cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, direct mail program (both internal and contract services), solicitation of cash donations on the Seattle Humane campus, and programmatic stewardship of all annual giving donors. This position is responsible for increasing participation from individual donors who give up to $5,000 annually, resulting in long-term financial growth for the organization.  The Annual Giving Manager will work closely with the Development Director and Communications and Marketing team to develop fundraising and engagement strategies and administer campaigns across multiple channels.   

 

PRIMARY INDIVIDUAL GIVING DUTIES:

  • Executes the comprehensive annual giving program, including strategies to inspire giving from new donors, increase retention rates, re-engage lapsed donors, and increase average gift amounts.
  • Acts as campaign manager for Annual Giving campaigns; partners with stakeholders across teams to develop, implement and continually evaluate multi-channel giving opportunities.
  • Manages campaign logistics and develops complex project timelines using project management tools that reflect roles, tasks, and dates to ensure project scope is understood and work is completed as planned.
  •  Primarily responsible for creating or collaborating with colleagues to ensure campaign assets (content, copywriting, graphics) are deployed and integrated across all platforms
  • Stays educated on new and emerging trends Philanthropy and with the technical developments that apply to the profession; communicate and lead their organizations in applying these developments. This includes new giving vehicles and avenues such as cryptocurrency, gamification, etc.
  • In partnership with Communications & Marketing team, aligns annual giving strategy with integrated communications plan and fundraising priorities.
  • Drafts copy for email, direct mail, newsletters, and social media that incorporates audience and community-focused strategies in collaboration with Communications and Marketing team.
  • With Direct Response vendor, assumes primary responsibility for managing all components and ensuring timely delivery of both internal and external projects and appeals. 
  • Actively works to expand and grow the monthly giving program.
  • Maximizes revenue to Seattle Humane through designated areas of responsibility including: internal and externally produced direct mail appeals, digital appeals, online giving, matching gifts, car donation program,  and individual gifts given. Leads efforts and projects for special giving days like Giving Tuesday and Give Big.
  • Drafts donor-centered acknowledgement letters for all types of donor gifts across campus. Partners with Donor Services Manager to ensure timely response to all gifts given to the organization via mail, by phone, online, on campus, internally, and at events.
  • Creates stewardship plans for annual giving donors including thank you calls, personal outreach, tours, notes and other methods for implementing moves management practices with annual donors across all levels of annual giving.
  • Submits budget requests; follows established annual budget amounts for assigned areas.
  • Provides input to the annual and strategic planning process; accomplishes assignments by established deadlines.
  • Prepares weekly & monthly reports and/or other data as requested by the Director of Development, Major Gifts Officers, or Executive Director.
  • Maintains appropriate files and records.  Adheres to the files and records retention policy and procedures.

 

 

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Answers incoming calls and responds to voicemail and email messages promptly and professionally.  Investigates donor complaints in a timely and objec­tive manner.  Tracks public input on a regular basis and provides information to the Development Director.
  • Conducts meetings within and between departments when necessary and attends all-staff, supervisor, department head and other meetings as requested.
  • Supports donor event planning and coordination. Assists with the training of special events staff and volunteers as needed in relation to annual giving.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Daily verbal or written communication with staff and donors through direct contact, meetings, written procedures, email, memos, charts, signs, telephone or mail.
  • Daily contact with customers and donors by telephone, email, direct contact or through the mail.

COMPLEXITY:

High degree of judgment required.  Requires the ability to work with board members and major donors.  Must be able to manage and complete special projects for the ED, the Board, the Major Gifts Officers, and Development Director Needs attention to detail and must be able to respond to unexpected questions, comments or requests from other departments or the general public. Must be able to manipulate information within the donor software and create reports between various programs.

 

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental fundraising principles and practices.
  • Proven experience in successfully managing teams of staff and volunteers to achieve project deliverables.
  • Four year college degree and 3 years of fundraising and/or other related professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate verbally with colleagues, leaders, and donors. 
  • Must have excellent writing skills. Aptitude with direct mail and online giving required.
  • Must have organizational and planning skills to be able to determine work priorities, schedules and timelines.
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, email and Internet use; have an advanced level of knowledge relational databases. Proficiency in project management platforms such as Asana and Basecamp is preferred.
  • Proficiency in donor management software required, Luminate Online and Raiser’s Edge preferred.

 

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

With or without reasonable accommodation, this position frequently analyzes problems and determine the best solutions, communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.  Makes decisions under time constraints with (sometimes) limited information.  Has attention to detail and concentrates to produce accurate work despite frequent interruptions. Needs to be sensitive to other opinions, perspectives or cultures. Can dealing with angry, confused and/or emotional people with tact and compassion.  Could sit for long periods of time, lift and carry at least 30 pounds, could kneel, crouch, bend and reach. Must exhibit initiative and motivation in performing duties.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Open office concept environment. Hybrid in-office and work from home flexibility. May have limited animal handling which presents the potential of animal bites, exposure to zoonotic diseases (diseases that can be transmitted from vertebrate animals to people), animal dander and noise.

Equipment Use: Continuous use of desktop computer, printer, copy machine, and multi-line telephone.

Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours a week.  Some evening and/or weekend hours required.

 

LOCATION

Must be based in the greater Seattle area. Reimbursement for relocation expenses not available.
