What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planner position at Seminole County/Board of County Commissioners?

Reviews all types of future land use, rezoning, site plan, subdivision, variance, setback, special exception applications to ensure compliance with the requirements of the SCLDC and the SCCP.
Prepares technical reports and makes presentations recommending actionsto County boards, such as the Code Enforcement Board, Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission and/or the Board of County Commissioners.
Coordinates with other departments, divisions, outside agencies, applicants, developers, engineers, and the general public to maintain consistency with established codes and regulations.
Participates in the Development Review Committee meetings.
Reviews and makes recommendations on planning and zoning issues.
Advises developers, engineers, and the public on County policies regarding land development requirements. Represents the Division and the Department at various meetings and conferences and on local technical and advisory committees.
Provides technical assistance to other staff and officials.
Implements and participates in developing and reviewing research, analysis, and interpretations of data.
Works to create community and interdepartmental partnerships.
Provides customer service.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related work as required.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
General knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and various office software packages. GIS preferred. Ability to learn computer software programs such as ePlan (electronic plan review), Naviline, and Novus agendas.
AICP certification preferred.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Working knowledge of comprehensive planning and related Florida Statutes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, and managers.
Ability to take direction and work independently or in a team environment. Ability to take initiative on assigned projects and meet deadlines.
Analytical skills, public speaking experience and business/technical writing skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to make effective oral presentations, prepare clear and effective technical reports and correspondence.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
Salary : $50,019 - $65,024
