Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION:

The part-time Culinary Lab Assistant takes and serves orders, prepares food, maintains cleanliness of food preparation areas, and maintains inventory of kitchen and food supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Takes and adds customer’s order into computer system, receives payment, and prepares food as requested, including grilling and frying.
  • Plans and manages orders to ensure all items are completed and served at the same time.
  • Assembles orders on trays or in bags as requested by customer.
  • Cleans food preparation equipment and restaurant areas.
  • Maintains supply inventory and stocks shelves.
  • Stamps time/date and rotates food in the coolers.
  • Processes and prepares large orders for events.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.


Desired Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a culinary lab assistant, restaurant cook, prep cook, or similar role.
  • Certificate in Culinary Arts.

  • Ability to work quickly and multitask during busy periods.
  • Ability to exhibit a friendly, professional, and courteous demeanor.
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices in food preparation, food service, and sanitation techniques.

WORK ENVIRONMENT And SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity and a good palate and physical sense of taste for different foods.
  • Required to travel between college campuses and local destinations.
  • Works in laboratory and field environments.
  • Works flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • May work with hazardous chemicals, materials, living and preserved plant and animal specimens, waste products, pressurized systems, and mechanical instruments.
  • Work sometimes requires lifting, moving, and pushing up to 55 pounds with assistance.

Pay Benefits And Work Schedule

$15.58 Hourly up to 29 hours per week.

Conditions of Employment

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children. The College will conduct various types of background checks which may include, but are not limited to: criminal background, credit check, driver's license check, previous employment and references.
