What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Counsel position at Seminole Tribe of Florida?
The incumbent in this position is accountable for functioning as the legal advisor and providing legal representation for the Board of the Seminole Tribe, Inc. and its Enterprises. The incumbent presents different legal options to the Tribal Board, President, and its Executive Officers and guarantees that the STOFI’s businesses are working in compliance with the appropriate rules, regulations, laws applicable to the STOF/and STOF Inc.
A Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree, and to have passed the state's bar exam is required. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a private law firm, legal experience in a business environment or an additional business degree. Must have practical knowledge and expertise in every aspect of Tribal Law. Must develop a good business sense, a clear and comprehensive understanding of Tribal/ Native American legal matters such as finance, Tribal land ordinances , employment; governance and commercial matters like compliance, contracts and employment and intellectual property; and be able to manage disposals, mergers and acquisitions. Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Software. Ability to travel locally and nationally, and to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
