Phlebotomist

BASIC FUNCTION:

Incumbent is responsible for performing clinical laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, monthly reports, and inventory maintenance.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Draws blood using proper technique for all age groups.
2. Adheres to proper infection control measures at all times.
3. Completes laboratory requisition forms, records all information necessary for patient care into the electronic health record (EHR) accurately in a timely manner, and prepares monthly reports.
4. Labels all specimen collection tubes/vials/containers correctly and completely.
5. Conducts CLIA-waived testing procedures on various collected samples including but not limited to: HCT, rapid strep, UHCG, fecal occult blood, PT/INR, UA, blood glucose, HbA1c, rapid flu, monospot.
6. Runs and documents quality control tests on lab equipment.
7. Reviews result reports and immediately contacts nurses or providers, as appropriate, with critical values.
8. Maintains and schedules patients for laboratory procedures as needed.
9. Tracks all tests ordered and performs follow-up procedures as needed.
10. Maintains stock supplies and performs general medical office duties within laboratory.
11. Attends all mandatory staff meetings and in-services.
12. Adheres to policies and procedures of the department, Seneca Nation, and Seneca Nation Health System.

·         Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills.

·         Excellent computer/technological skills.

·         Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

·         The physical stamina to stand for long periods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         2 years’ phlebotomy experience, to include pediatric and geriatric collections required.

·         Phlebotomy or Certified Medical Assistant certification required.

·         Current CPR/BLS required.

·         Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.
