Qualifications
Position Summary
While performing the essential duties of the position, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently use demonstration techniques while coaching that require physical activity, such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, swinging an implement, and general body movement. The employee will need to carry items that may be heavy (in excess of 20 pounds). The employee will occasionally need to sit for long periods of time, and frequently travel by bus. The position may require the employee to work extended hours to meet the demands of the position.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally will be excessive. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications
Position Summary
- Has knowledge and background in the sport
- Meets RSU 57 eligibility requirements:
- First Aid Training
- CPR Training
- Concussion Management Course
- Heat & Acclimatization Course
- RSU 57 Background Check
- Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check Requirements must be met when specified
- Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success
- Serve as an assistant to the Varsity Head Coach
- Thorough knowledge of all local and state athletic policies
- Implement policies as required
- Attend all required meetings set by school and MPA
- Emphasize the importance of academics, sportsmanship, and citizenship as part of the athletic philosophy
- Maintain high standards for athletes’ performance and conduct
- Model standards of conduct in own behavior
- Dress appropriately at practices and games
- Knowledge of sport
- Knowledge of training and conditioning techniques
- Seek opportunities to learn and employ new techniques and ideas
- Teach skills that are appropriate and safe for the individual athlete
- Supervise athletes at all times
- Maintain, inventory, properly store and care for equipment
- Check equipment and facilities for safety
- Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices as necessary
- Create and enforce appropriate team rules
- Knowledge and use of appropriate emergency/injury response skills
- Encourage leadership of athletes on and off the field
- Communicate with parents promptly and appropriately
- Participate in pre-season informational meetings with parents and athletes
- Interact with game officials effectively and appropriately
- Model excellent sportsmanship at all times
- Meet deadlines for paperwork and other related duties
- Maintain paperwork/records of athletes as required
- Perform other duties that may be assigned by the head coach, athletic director or principal
- Ability to read and interpret documents pertinent to position, i.e. athletic policy manuals, handbooks, and state guidelines.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly, in speech and writing, to parents, coaches, and athletes.
