Overview
Under supervision of the SHNH Clinical Director, the Occupational Therapist assesses, designs, implements, and evaluates the implementation of therapeutic interventions designed to prevent/minimize the impact of disability and to assist children with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities to maximize their level of performance and independence. The Occupational Therapist is a contributing member of a multidisciplinary clinical team, collaborating with families, program staff, and other key stakeholders to improve outcomes and to promote wraparound care. The Occupational Therapist serves as a clinical consultant to a caseload of children across settings, providing staff professional training as part of their program consultation. Maintains compliance with applicable regulations and licensure/certification standards and engages in ongoing professional development and systems improvement in effort to support systems-wide interventions as well as direct/indirect interventions for children.
Responsibilities
Delivers a continuum of comprehensive therapeutic services and supports to individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities within their natural environments.2. Conducts occupational therapy evaluations, in accordance with referral concerns (e.g., IEP annual or triennial evaluations, physician’s prescription/referral).3. Establishes appropriate treatment goals and objectives based on evaluation results.4. Utilizes appropriate, evidence-based intervention approaches, methods and techniques to implement programs.5. Develops, monitors, and evaluates comprehensive occupational therapy treatment plans to address goals and objectives. Performs on-going assessments, changing therapy programs as indicated.6. Maintains responsibility for staff/caregiver training, coaching, and on-site technical assistance as a means of ensuring accurate treatment plan implementation.7. Generates objectives and prepares clinical reports and progress summaries evaluating progress toward treatment objectives.8. Uses creative problem solving to explore innovative solutions for barriers to therapeutic service implementation.9. Participates in the client’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or similar person-centered treatment planning process, collaborating with other members of the team to promote a continuity of care.10. Designs and/or conducts staff trainings on clinically-related topics. Provides on-site coaching and training to SHNH staff specific to implementation of the Foundation’s current crisis management curriculum.11. Provide clinical supervision to clinical staff enrolled in university training programs.12. Participates in the intake process as directed/requested.13. Develops and maintains supportive working relationships with the individual’s families/guardians.14. Maintains confidential records (e.g., assessments, treatment plans, clinical reports, progress summaries), completes mandated reports (e.g., incident reports), and participates in mandated reviews as per regulations.
Qualifications
1. Pass a fingerprint-based background check of the state and national criminal history databases.2. Clear/active licensure as an Occupational Therapist issued by the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure & Certification.3. Master’s degree in occupational therapy.4. National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certified.5. Dual licensure/certification (e.g., Assistive Technology Professional, Mental Health Counselor) and/or professional training and experience in developmental disabilities, special education (including supporting students with challenging behavior), vocational rehabilitation, and/or treatment of oral motor/ feeding/ eating/ swallowing deficits highly preferred.6. Supervised training and experience delivering comprehensive therapeutic services and supports to individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities within their natural environments, including conducting clinical assessments, and designing/ implementing/ monitoring treatment plans to teach developmental or functional living skills.7. Training and experience with clinical supervision of occupational therapy services, including the supervision of Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants (COTAs).8. Computer literacy/proficiency, including experience working within electronic health records (EHRs).9. Excellent writing skills with experience preparing clinical reports and progress summaries.10. Excellent verbal communication skills with experience leading clinical meetings, sharing case information to support staff, and presenting to other clinical disciplines.11. Strong understanding of human rights, self-determination and individualized treatment planning.12. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.13. Ability to work flexible hours as required.14. Valid driver’s license and evidence of a safe driving record.
