What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Program and Support Teacher: position at Sewanee Children's Center?
Sewanee Children's Center (SCC) is seeking a part-time support/after-school program teacher. The ideal candidate would be at least 18 years old, with a high school diploma, and an interest in gaining preschool teaching experience by supporting teachers and children as needed in their classrooms, and by working in SCC’s After School program for children in kindergarten through third grade.
Sewanee Children's Center's goal is to provide a safe and loving environment that is sensitive to the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of our children. We foster an enthusiasm for discovery and life-long learning. The teachers of SCC currently provide developmentally appropriate teaching and learning for children ages six-weeks to five years old in the preschool program and for children in kindergarten through third grade in the afterschool program.
The part time Support/After School Teacher's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Caring for and meeting the basic needs of children between the ages of approximately six weeks through nine years old, including assistance with feeding and diapering when needed.
- Supporting classroom teachers in maintaining a neat, orderly, and curated classroom environment, as well as ensuring the sanitation and cleanliness of the children’s space and learning materials.
- Encouraging a trusting relationship between yourself and the families of the children through frequent and thorough communication about the child’s daily experiences, schedules, and development. This includes respecting the confidentiality of all children and families.
- Preparation and cleanup of lunch and snacks daily
- Assisting in classrooms during teacher lunch breaks, and/or other absences
- Working as an After School teacher (with children aged 5-9), under the guidance of the Assistant Director and Director
- Recognizing and considering the individual needs of each child in relation to cultural and socio-economic background, disabilities, special talents and interests, and style and pace of learning.
- Supporting the mission of the school by becoming familiar with and ascribing to the Reggio Emilia and constructivist practices in early childhood education.
- Working collaboratively with other teachers at the center and respecting the confidentiality of all colleagues.
- Becoming familiar with and following DHS rules and regulations and complete minimum state-required training hours, including CPR certification
- Willingness to undergo and pass a state background check.
