Job Title: Child Care Teacher

Location: Richmond, VA

Pay Rate: $38k–$48k/year

About the Role:

The Child Care Teacher utilizes the Reggio education approach to plan, develop, and implement creative and adaptive lesson plans while providing a safe, secure, and engaging environment for children ages six weeks to six years. Working as part of a teaching team, the Child Care Teacher supports children’s self-esteem, growth, and development, making learning a fun and enriching experience that encourages each child to reach their full potential.

This role includes planning and delivering classroom activities, documenting children’s progress, maintaining a clean and safe learning environment, supervising teacher aides and volunteers, and collaborating closely with families and staff. The Child Care Teacher adheres to licensing and accrediting body requirements, supports program goals focused on autonomy and respect for children’s abilities, and actively participates in continuous education, staff meetings, and program initiatives. Responsibilities also include infection control, environmental health and safety practices, classroom organization, and supporting smooth transitions for children and families.

Requirements:

• Ability to plan, develop, and implement lesson plans and goals that support cognitive, social, motor, language, and independence development.
• Ability to document children’s daily progress, observations, and feedback, and prepare and maintain written reports and records.
• Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment following infection control, environmental health, and safety procedures.
• Ability to supervise teacher aides and volunteers and maintain collaborative relationships with teachers and staff.
• Ability to follow established policies, procedures, regulatory guidelines, and licensing or accrediting body standards.
• Ability to participate in staff meetings, special sessions, and mandatory continuing education events.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment with frequent and intense customer interaction.
• Ability to adapt to frequent change, manage multiple priorities, and accept alternate assignments as required.
• Physical abilities including frequent bending and climbing; ability to hear effectively, speak clearly, write legibly, and demonstrate reasoning, problem-solving, logical thinking, reading, and comprehension skills.

Qualifications:

Education – Required:

• Two (2) year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, Psychology, or a closely related field and/or
• High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 40 hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field (e.g., Child Psychology, Children’s Literature), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education – Preferred:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

Licensure/Certification – Preferred:

• Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate.

Experience – Required:

• Previous experience working with children ages six (6) weeks to six (6) years (paid or unpaid).
• Two (2) years of formal experience.

Experience – Preferred:

• Experience working specifically with children ages six (6) weeks to two (2) years.
• Familiarity with the Reggio philosophical approach to education for children.
