What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemist I (Chromatography Lab) position at SGS?

The Chemist I position, in the Chromatography lab, is responsible for performing analysis using chromatography methods and instruments. This will also include setting up and calibrating instruments, preparing samples, acquiring Chromatography data, processing data, and reporting results.
- Create and maintain detailed lab record documentation (notebooks and computer based) according to GMPs.
- Maintain assigned laboratory instrumentation which may include routine maintenance, calibration and verification, and troubleshooting.
- Develop or optimize chromatographic methods as required.
- Document laboratory methods in written work instructions and SOP’s.
- Execute analytical method validation protocols.
- Peer Review expectations include demonstrating attention to detail, approving lab notebook pages, checking data entry, sequence checks, and data approvals.
- Perform assigned quality assurance responsibilities including, but not limited to: initiating and processing workflows for training, change control, planned deviations, and investigations; revising and authoring work instructions; providing technical support for investigations and approvals; and participating in internal and external quality audits.
- Train and mentor other scientists based on experience.
- Maintain assigned laboratory spaces in a neat and organized condition.
- Maintain inventories of parts and supplies needed for assigned work
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field
- Experience operating chromatography instrumentation
- Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 and/or cGMP environment
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Language Skills: English
- Mathematical Skills: advanced level required
- Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Advanced level required
- Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Computer Skills: MS Office, Chromatographic Software
- Advanced chemical laboratory techniques
TRAVEL
- Travels up to 5% of the time

WORK SCHEDULE
- Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
