The role involves directly assisting clients with their personal care needs, implementing behavioral interventions, and contributing to a safe and supportive living environment. The DSP works closely with other staff members to ensure that care plans are followed and that client needs are met with empathy and professionalism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Support Professionals must have the following:
Education
· High school diploma or GED required. Additional coursework or training in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
· Previous experience in a direct care role, particularly with individuals with I/DD, is preferred but not required.
· Certification in CPR/First Aid.
· Training in behavior management, crisis intervention, and relevant regulations (Shalom Heritage will provide training if applicant does not already have certifications)
· Behavioral Health Technician preferred
Direct Support Professionals must meet the following clinical qualifications:
· Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to provide compassionate care. Strong observational and documentation skills.
· Ability to follow instructions, work independently, collaborate effectively with a team and receive feedback.
· Strong communication skills
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including assisting with client mobility and moving supplies.
· Ability to move throughout the facility, including navigating stairs, and assist clients with mobility if needed.
Capability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, and bending, for extended periods.
· Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and perform physical interventions such as restraining if necessary.
· Ability to stay awake and alert across 12 hours shift (night and day-time).

Responsibilities
· Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
· Implement behavior intervention plans as directed and provide support in managing challenging behaviors.
· Monitor and report on client physical and emotional well-being, including any changes in behavior or health conditions.
· Adhere to and execute individualized care plans and behavioral intervention strategies developed by BCBAs[AB10] or other professionals.
· Document client behavior and progress accurately, maintaining detailed records for evaluation and review.
· Plan and engage clients in recreational and therapeutic activities to enhance their quality of life and promote social interaction.
· Assist in maintaining a clean and safe living environment, including housekeeping duties and ensuring that the home is organized.
· Respond effectively to emergencies and behavioral crises, using de-escalation techniques and following crisis intervention protocols.
· Report any incidents, accidents, or significant changes in client behavior to the Group Home Lead Staff.
· Work closely with other staff members to coordinate care, share observations, and ensure consistent implementation of care plans.
