What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Counsel position at Shea Homes and Careers?
About this Job
- Prepare and negotiate contracts and other legal documentation
- Provide risk analyses and guidance on contract matters
- Participate in the negotiation process between Shea, its clients and partners
- Interpret laws, regulations and other legal documents
- Provide legal advice and contribute to analyses relating to project governance issues
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws, especially Equal Employment Opportunity laws and regulations
- Work closely with internal clients, including business development, corporate support services and operational personnel as well as senior management in both the business unit and at the corporate level in order to minimize project risk
- Assist with claims and litigation, including contracts disputes and tort claims
- Work with Legal and Human Resources Departments with respect to employment matters
- Contribute to or influence company policies as appropriate
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctorate Degree required
- Lawyer in good standing with state bar certification
- 2-5 years of related legal experience
- Transactional and claim related legal experience in the construction industry (helpful, not required)
- Ability to negotiate legal and commercial issues arising with respect to project delivery
- Experience with construction contracts and disputes will be considered an asset
- Problem solving skills together with the confidence to take the initiative on projects
- Strong communication skills and attention-to-detail
- Work ethic to see work to completion without constant supervision
- Ability to work independently
