What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landfill Operations Clerk position at Shelby County?
- Provides exceptional customer service.
- Uses scales, computerized and mechanical, to determine net weights for landfill fees due from residential and commercial customers.
- Surmises incoming materials rapidly and effectively for an average of 350 customers daily; directs customers to required field location for material type.
- Rejects vehicles entering the landfill with suspicious loads that might contain hazardous wastes or other impermissible wastes.
- Operates cash registers and point-of-sale machines to receipt customers and simultaneously process tickets using landfill software.
- Answer telephones and communicate effectively the landfill services, billing methods and any special requirements.
- Reconcile system generated revenue reports for daily receipts against charge accounts, credit cards, cash, and check payments.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of customer service experience involving public contact and balancing a cash drawer or related work.
- School or technical courses in business, bookkeeping or accounting.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed indoors with exposure to fumes and loud noise from equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is sedentary in nature involving sitting, occasional standing, walking, bending, crawling and lifting less than 25 pounds.
