About the Role


As a Chemical Engineering Intern (PhD), you will contribute to projects that involve advanced chemistry, thermodynamics, fluid behavior, and process engineering. You’ll collaborate with Shell engineers, researchers, and technical specialists to generate insights, develop solutions, and support innovations across Shell’s operations.


You will be assigned a project that directly impacts the business, giving you the opportunity to apply your academic training in real‑world situations while growing both technical and professional skills.


What You Will Do


  • Work on a project aligned to your chemical engineering background and Shell’s business needs.
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to tackle real technical challenges.
  • Conduct analysis, propose solutions, and contribute to team decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary Shell experts.
  • Participate in mid‑term and end-of-internship evaluations.
  • Present your project outcomes to technical leaders at Shell.

Typical internship locations: Texas and Louisiana, with some opportunities in California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania depending on business needs.


Who We’re Looking For


We seek ambitious students who enjoy being challenged and are eager to innovate. Ideal candidates are strong analytical thinkers with the resilience, curiosity, and collaborative mindset necessary to contribute to complex engineering projects.


Required Qualifications


  • Major: Chemical Engineering
  • Education Level: PhD student
  • Anticipated Graduation: December 2027– May 2029
  • Actively enrolled with at least one semester remaining after the internship.
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.20.
  • Must have valid U.S. work authorization (U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or temporary resident). Some PhD/Master’s disciplines may be eligible for sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)


  • Knowledge of fluid/solid phase behavior, rheology, or surface chemistry Hands‑on experience with multiphase flow modeling
