It is the Mission of Shelter From the Storm to provide services to those who have been impacted by interpersonal violence, sexual assault and stalking break the cycle of through advocacy, education, and awareness.
Position: Sexual Assault Response Advocate
Position Status: 1.0 FTE
Reports to: Programs Director in collaboration with Executive Director
Objectives
To support and further the mission and core values of Shelter From the Storm and to ensure shelter residents receive the best quality services and advocacy available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Programs Director and the Union County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)
- Create and implement an outreach strategy to ensure the community and potential victims/survivors are aware of SART.
- Attend monthly SART meetings.
- Work with community care providers to develop protocols for responding to victims/survivors of sexual assault.
- Inform responders of training opportunities that are available.
- Maintain security of documents and appropriate confidentiality.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the SART to provide direct service, training, and educational opportunities within the community directly related to Sexual Assault.
- Maintain confidential information in compliance with Shelter from the Storm’s Confidentiality Policy.
- Provide direct advocacy through office services.
- Assist victims/survivors in becoming safe and self-empowered through safety assessments and planning, referrals, information, and peer support.
- Assist victims/survivors in reporting to law enforcement and in pursuing protection orders.
- Assist with Organization data entry, monthly reports and provide pertinent information for reports to the Executive Director.
- Assist with entry, tracking and reporting of statistical client services data.
- Other duties as assigned by direct supervisors.
- Will work in partnership with the Victim Assistance Program within the District Attorney’s office.
This is an ON CALL position, must be able to travel for work, and able to respond to client needs after regular hours and on weekends to assist with crisis response and holding the hotline.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform essential duties and responsibilities as listed above. In addition, the following candidate must be able to carry out the following: attention to detail, strong organization skills, utilize effective time management. Must possess the ability to work as an individual and as part of a team, handle multiple priorities, remain calm in stressful situations, and maintain confidentiality. The Sexual Assault Response Advocate must be able to work effectively in a nonprofit environment with frequent interruptions. Evening and weekend work may be required. Must be willing and able to travel.

- Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Other Requirements
- Experience working with survivors preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to regular transportation required.
- Criminal background check required.
- Must comply with all SFS policies and safety regulations.
- State of Oregon training requirements may be completed concurrent with work.
- Agree, in writing, to maintain confidentiality of clients, staff, and SFS agency always.
