Shenandoah Community Health's (SCH) Primary Care Department is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team!! NEW GRADS WELCOME!
As Certified Medical Assistant on our team, you will primarily be responsible for assisting and providing safe, consistent, and appropriate patient care within your scope of practice. You will be an advocate for the patient when working with the RN or Clinicians, and ensure high levels of respectful and thoughtful care. You will assess plans and deliver patient care in collaboration with a professional Registered Nurse/Clinician. You will work with an exceptional team of nurses, physicians, Nurse Practitioners, as well as other support staff. Come join our team!

The MA also performs duties as follows:
- Gives medication as directed by the provider, vital signs; such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight, basic wound care, injections, and immunizations.
- Scheduling appointments, keeping medical records current and working with insurance companies.
- Assumes self-responsibility for all direct patient care activities as indicated by the Registered Nurse (RN) within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act and Shenandoah Valley Medical Systems (SVMS) policies and procedures.
- Reinforces instructions given to the patient by the Provider and RN, refers new needs for instruction to RN.
- Performs effective in-take assessments including brief patient history, chief complaint, current medications, allergies, and significant previous medical/psychosocial problems.
- Screens assigned telephone messages and processes inquiries, or refer to appropriate medical personnel per SVMS protocols.
- Effectively performs specific laboratory tests/Point of Care testing that has been approved by the Laboratory Director
- Demonstrates flexibility, open-mindedness, and versatility in adjusting to changing environments and requirements as necessary.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy at all times according to SVMS policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
- Practices within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act and understands the legal consequences of nursing action.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited MA program.
- Must have a Medical Assistant Certification.
- Must have the demonstrated ability to function effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge of lab testing, diagnostic equipment, and medical procedures and protocols is required.
- Must have excellent skills in patient communication and education.
- Current basic CPR certification is required.
- Previous experience working as an MA s preferred, but not required.
