Position SummaryThe HR Generalist will play a key role in supporting faculty, staff, and students by managing a wide range of HR functions. This includes onboarding new staff, maintaining HR systems, administering employee leave, and ensuring compliance with university policies.
Key ResponsibilitiesHR Operations- Manage daily HR department operations
- Hire student Work-Study employees
- Administer employee leave and enforce policies
- Oversee annual audit reporting
- Serve as primary contact for HRIS system implementations
- Cross-train with HR staff on various duties
- Lead HRIS system projects and updates
- Collaborate with IT and Payroll on system integrations (Hornet Hub, Etrieve, Canvas)
- Maintain data in HRIS and Canvas
- Enter leave accruals and update holiday schedules
- Manage payroll and retirement plan data
- Onboard new benefited staff via online platform
- Coordinate with directors for new hire paperwork and screenings
- Build new positions in Colleague
- Conduct benefit audits and census reporting
- Process and reconcile benefit premiums
- Assist with benefit enrollment and open enrollment events
- Monitor employee training modules
- Provide backup support for job postings, Work Study hiring, and onboarding for summer theater employment
- Assist employees with timekeeping, leave tracking, and benefits inquiries
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support HR and university needs
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency in HRIS (Ellucian), talent management systems (Rival), and other SU platforms
- Must be able to sit for extended periods
- Office located on the 3rd floor (no elevator access); reasonable accommodations available
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
- Required: 3–5 years in an office or professional setting
- Preferred: 3–5 years in higher education or HR
- Experience with Colleague/Ellucian or similar systems
