Project Superintendent I Overview
Project Superintendent I manages field operations in a professional manner and is responsible for the successful completion of the project with zero accidents/injuries, on-time, while assuring quality standards are achieved. Primary responsibilities include developing the work plan and sequence, coordinating all scopes of work and effectively communicating with all stakeholders. Project Superintendent reports directly to the general superintendent and in collaboration with the Project Manager.
Role Expectations and Competencies
- Fundamental ability to supervise field operations to ensure project meets the Owner’s expectations.
- Effectively communicate with the Owner, designer, contractors, subcontractors, authorities having jurisdiction, and trades to collaboratively complete the project on-time.
- Develop a work plan and sequence to maximize schedule efficiencies.
- Collaborative planning and leadership to supervise and communicate with Shiel Sexton craft employees and subcontractors, and provide technical assistance with all aspects of construction.
- Strong foundation of safety management practices and ability to build a safety mindset and safety culture on the jobsite.
- Ability to effectively read, understand and visualize all aspects of the Project Documents: Drawings, Specifications and written narratives. Very quickly understands a project’s entire scope of work and how the various must trades interact throughout construction
- Creation and management of Comprehensive logistics and trade execution plans by using excellent written and oral communication with owners, contractors, and engineers, while exemplifying fundamental financial awareness when making decisions that have financial impact.
- Planning, coordinating, and supervising on-site functions (scheduling, engineering, material control and may provide day-to-day direction of on-site administrative craft personnel).
- Proving proficient customer focus by assessing customer’s (internal and external) business needs such as assisting project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
- Fundamental ability to accept accountability for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project, while upholding a proficient level of quality orientation in the working environment, shown through daily monitoring, and exemplifying a results-orientated mindset to achieve tangible results.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills by identifying complex problems and drawing realistic conclusions.
- High Level of organization to manage and follow up on multiple issues simultaneously. High degree of ownership for prompt and accurate resolution of issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ten (10) plus years’ experience in commercial construction management.
- Trade specific background or post-secondary education in construction related degree is preferred.
- OSHA 30 hour certified
- Ability to comprehend design documents and develop a work plan incorporating all aspects of the project.
- Proficient leadership skills to achieve results by planning, coordinating, and supervising on-site functions (scheduling, engineering, material control and may provide day-to-day direction of on-site craft personnel).
- Understanding of building systems including earthwork, utilities, foundations and structural systems, building envelope, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with computer-based management software programs such as Procore.
- Computer based knowledge Word, Excel and Outlook.
- BIM 360 and other 3-D coordination software a plus.
