Job Description Summary The Post-Doctoral Fellow, Research will assist in the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research and/or development in collaboration with a research team. Job Description The Postdoctoral Fellow will: Design and development of robot behaviors and control strategies, and their implementation in code and on hardware. The design, execution and interpretation of experiments that validate these behaviors, possibly with human subjects. High quality and timely dissemination of research results. Independent leadership of research projects in a team environment. Keeping informed of developments in the field to maintain and enhance professional expertise and the research activities of the lab. Participation in research activities within and outside of the laboratory. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Reporting Relationships Reports directly to assigned Research Scientist or Principal Investigator. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Less than 3 years of postdoctoral training. Proficiency in the development of robot control paradigms and higher-level behaviors, where development includes both the writing of code (C , ROS, python) and its implementation on real hardware. Proficiency in debugging software and hardware systems. Creativity and independence in the identification of research problems and approaches to solving them. General knowledge of or interest in rehabilitation. Experience with subject studies and/or working with subjects with motor impairments is a plus. Expertise in ROS and/or machine learning is a plus. Working Conditions Normal laboratory environment within a hospital setting with little or no exposure to biohazard materials.
