What are the responsibilities and job description for the Captain position at Shoreline Marine Company?
The Captain is responsible for the safe navigation and operation of Shoreline vessels and the safety and security of their crew and passengers. Captains are expected to meet minimum physical requirements, be familiar with the location of all equipment on board the vessel and demonstrate the ability to direct emergency situations. They are required to lead drills and training in a pre-set timetable and complete all required onboard paperwork. Deckhands maintain the safety of Shoreline’s guests as well as interact with them before, during, and after the voyage. They must be available to work during all peak customer traffic periods, such as weekends, holidays, or any other occasion that would generate high customer flow. The primary duty of the captain is to oversee the safety of the passengers and direct the crew in all aspects of vessel operations especially during emergency situations.
Duties include:
● Reinforce the importance of safety and situational awareness in a professional environment.
● Uphold company policy to provide safe, excellent experience for guests and employees
● Work to ensure that everyone involved with Shoreline Sightseeing has a positive, memorable, safe experience at every occasion.
● Facilitate hands-on training for newly hired and veteran crew
● Oversee a well-maintained, clean, safely operating vessel
● Report any and all incidents of maritime casualty or security discrepancy in a timely manner
● Act as Vessel Security Officer and ensure security protocols are followed per USCG regulations
● Coordinate reporting and completion of any and all necessary repairs with maintenance personnel
Requirements for the job include:
● Standing for one and a half hours at a time.
● Capable of lifting 50 lbs.
● Ascend or descend a ladder.
● Enter and work in an enclosed space.
● Work outside in conditions of extreme heat or extreme cold.

● Merchant Mariner’s Document (MMD)
● US Coast Guard Medical Certificate
● Marine Radio Operator’s Permit (MROP)
