Short Hills Surgery Center, located in Millburn, New Jersey, is seeking a NJ-licensed Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse Per-Diem to join our exceptional healthcare team. SHSC is a fast-paced, AAAHC-Certified state of the art facility! Our multi-specialty same-day surgery center has all the accreditations of a traditional hospital, but we set a higher standard for physician and nursing care. The result: our high patient satisfaction scores and low infection rates. Our 25,000-square-foot facility features six major operating rooms, two minor surgery rooms, and 24 recovery beds, including four private rooms, all within an upscale, comfortable atmosphere.
This position is a great opportunity for the right candidate. Minimum 5 years nursing experience with minimum 2 years’ experience in pre-operative or post-operative nursing or related critical care field. Ambulatory experience preferred. Bachelors in Nursing preferred.
Essential, core functions of the Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse include:
· The PACU/PRE-OP RN collaborates with members of the health care team to provide primary nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process.
· In providing care, the PACU/PRE-OP RN will be accountable for: documentation of all aspects of care per facility guidelines; demonstrate excellent skill and judgment; administration of medications, IV’s, and treatments; maintain patient safety and comfort; accurately implement physician orders, and be accountable for clinical computer entry.
· Demonstrates knowledge of all aspects of care including pre op, phase I, and phase II, as assigned.
· Documents a complete admission assessment, including vital signs and pain level, upon arrival to pre op area. Performs ongoing assessments as needed, addressing concerns for potential adverse outcomes in collaboration with anesthesia.
· Effectively explains pre-op and/or post-op instructions to the patient and family.
· Documents a complete assessment, including vital signs and pain level, upon arrival to PACU. Performs ongoing assessments, addressing concerns to promote excellent patient outcomes in collaboration with anesthesia.
· A nursing care plan will be followed addressing any initial assessment concerns for improved patient outcomes.
· Discharge will be based on facility policy and current standards of care. The Registered Nurse will include in their evaluation; a patient’s nausea, pain, surgical site condition, bleeding, fluid and urinary status, cognitive abilities, circulation, gait and vital signs.
· Verbal and written discharge instructions, including follow-up care, incision care (if applicable), medication use with potential side effects, and when to contact the health care provider for additional assistance will be provided to each patient with individual, special needs addressed. Instructions are to be reviewed with patient and their responsible person before discharge.
· Objectives of follow-up phone calls to patients to include; assessment of pain level, effectiveness of medication(s), determine signs and symptoms that are reportable to physician, and to document the results of the phone call.

· Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care.
· Demonstrate self-direction, motivation, and professionalism by identifying areas of needed professional development, participation in educational activities and staff meetings, and exhibit reliability and accountability on scheduled work days.
· Demonstrates good time management skills to maintain optimal efficiency and productivity of the department.
· Effective interaction with co-workers to promote and coordinate patient care.
· Completes annual mandatory educational programs, such as, Violence in the Workplace, Child and Elder Abuse, Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogen, Emergency Preparedness, etc. and attends facility in-services as required.
· Promotes a professional working climate helping to provide growth and job satisfaction through teaching and coaching.
· If requested, takes responsibility to chair one or more committees, or serve as a participant on a committee.
· Performs other duties as deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications: Must be licensed by the State of New Jersey and have current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.
