Description
Lifeguards ensure the safety of visitors at Island Waterpark by maintaining constant surveillance, actively scanning, and monitoring patrons in their assigned area.
Lifeguards explain safety rules to patrons, warn them about unsafe situations and enforce waterpark rules. Lifeguards are responsible for recognizing and responding to water rescues and incidents as well as rendering emergency care when necessary.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safeguard and regulate conduct of waterpark patrons
- Enforce park policies, rules, and regulations
- Rescue patrons and performs appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid
- Respond quickly, intelligently, and decisively in accordance with established emergency and accident procedures
- Must be alert and actively seek to prevent accidents and eliminate risk
- Must administer CPR and first aid as appropriate per incident protocols
- Provide written reports on all accidents / incidents
- Maintain proper updated safety requirements
- Attend in-service training as scheduled
- Provide customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints, as necessary
- Perform work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures
- Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to waterpark leadership
- Communicate with patrons professionally and courteously to answer questions, resolve conflicts and enforce park policies and rules
- Performs other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must be certified in StarGuard ELITE Lifeguarding or become certified within 30 days of employment.
- Must be safety minded and focused
- Strong attention to detail
- Must work well under pressure and high-stress situations
- Must be able to stay focused on task for long periods of time; be alert
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Requirements
- Knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of facility rules, policies, and procedures
- Leadership qualities and guest service skills
Physical Requirements
- Heavy work - Exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Flexible and long hours sometimes required including weekends and holidays. Time spent may be dictated by the number of clients or groups on property or by the time of the season
- Ability to move frequently throughout the large facility
- Standing and walking for long periods of time
- Must be able to work in environmental conditions that include, but are not limited to : Wet and humid environments, indoor tropical environmental conditions with up to 90% humidity and warm temperatures in excess of 70F, as well as outdoor environmental conditions
