The description below is for our barista team, but everyone works side by side at Shy Bird so everybody needs to be cross-trained to support one another. Chefs run food and bus tables. Counter team preps snap peas and do dishes. Bartenders seat guests and stock plates. We all run chicken.
Purpose of Position:
The barista team is pivotal at Shy Bird. Centrally located in the service area, you have a peripheral view of what’s happening at the point of sale as well as the kitchen and bar. While your primary goal is to make exceptional coffee beverages in a high-volume environment, you are also a key link to the flow of service at Shy Bird. With a comprehensive knowledge of the food, coffee, and beverage menus, you will help guide guests through any and all points of their experience. Always aware and communicating, we want the barista team to not only be skilled in their craft, but also be cognizant of guest and restaurant needs.
Responsibilities:
- Greet all guests warmly, seek out those guests who need guidance
- Establish meaningful connections with guests in a fast paced environment
- Guide guests effectively through the Shy Bird experience after ordering
- Comprehensive knowledge of food, coffee, soft beverages, wine by the glass, beer, and cocktails
- Create consistent quality beverages for guests, no matter the pace of service
- Able to speak with guests and staff about Counter Culture and the coffees we feature
- Execute proper barista mechanics and equipment care as put forth by Counter Culture
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area both within your station and in the restaurant as a whole
- Assist with opening and closing restaurant duties and re-stocking
- Support mise en place and preparation across Shy Bird
