JOB
Under the direction of the Chief Deputy, the Investigator is responsible for investigating criminal activity and for enforcing all federal, state and local laws and ordinances in order to serve and protect the citizens of Sibley County. The Investigator is responsible for handling and processing crime scenes; for providing and preparing cases for prosecution and working closely with the County Attorney’s Office; for testifying in court; and for providing liaison with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in investigating crimes.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Conducts investigations involving al criminal, civil, administrative and regulated activities to include such activities as: Interviews victims, suspects and witnesses.Conducts surveillance activities.Handles and processes crime scenes to collect and process evidence. Takes photographs; collects physical evidence and or trace evidence; offers rewards; treats the injured, if necessary; and maintains the proper care of any and all evidence.Manages and oversees crime scene security so as to limit the amount of cross contamination and protect the integrity of the scene and case.Types investigative reports documenting all investigative activities and actions.Provides the court with written requests for search warrants. Serves subpoenas, search and arrest warrants. Prepares and forwards cases for prosecution. Prepares reports for the County Attorney’s Office . Provides follow up investigative activities to address issues/concerns and/or needs identified by the County Attorney’s Office.Testifies in court. Appears in court and testifies as to investigative actions and evidence collected in the case. Incumbents of this position are relied upon for providing credible, accurate, and effective testimony in court and elsewhere. It is of utmost importance that person's in this position conduct themselves in a manner that does not cause concern regarding their ability to be able to provide credible, accurate, and effective testimony.Assists deputies and other officers with investigations.Performs the duties of any other deputy Sheriff in the enforcement of all provisions of federal and state laws and local ordinances.Serves warrants, responds to a variety of calls involving crimes, domestic disturbances, accidents, emergencies, drowning or other incidents related to the performance of duties. Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required. Keeps abreast of changing legislation, trends, training requirements, policies, and developments in areas of responsibility.May serve on special task forces or assignments, as delegated.
