SUMMARY:
The Surgical Assistant provides you with the opportunity to assist surgical staff with the transfer of patients from pre-op to operating room to recovery, setting up the OR for the next case, washing down stretchers and other equipment in the recovery room in between patients to maintain flow. You will provide indirect patient care for the department by assisting the recovery room nurse as needed and directed. You will also be responsible for restocking the recovery room and maintaining a clean and orderly environment; emptying linen and garbage receptacles in the operating room as needed. Prior experience as a Surgical Assistant is preferred, however, we offer extensive training for those seeking to enter the field for the first time. You should be able to communicate professionally, be comfortable working in a medical environment, be highly organized, have a strong customer service background, possess excellent computer and organizational skills, and embody a welcoming/friendly demeanor.
Your schedule will vary, dependent on the operational hours of the center you are assigned to. You must have the flexibility to work within these hours of operation, including weekends, early mornings, or late evenings.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
• Verify the identity of patients and operative procedure and correct site; Confirm with surgeon and medical team
• Determine availability of necessary equipment and supplies for operative procedures; Obtain and inspect sterile or nonsterile surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies
• Monitor and maintain aseptic techniques throughout procedures; Assist with aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
• Assist with placing and removing EKG electrodes, blood pressure cuff, and oxygen mask
• Maintain an unobstructed operative field using equipment as needed and directed by the physician
• Monitor patient intra-operative status including vital signs
• Assist the surgical technician in preparing the operating room for the next patient
• Assist with the safe transport of patients to the next level of care
• Routinely check all areas of the center for cleanliness and safety; Initiate precautions to prevent any type of hazard
• Manage and maintain stock on a daily and as needed basis; ensure all new supplies are put away each day at the end of the shift
• Restock supplies in the recovery room throughout the day
• Ensure patient care bags are put together and adequate supply is maintained
• Other duties as assigned and directed by your supervisor
Required Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Current BLS certification required or within 6 months of employment
• Current CPR certification
• Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
• Prior experience in the medical field highly desirable
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
• Above average customer service skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bilingual Spanish a plus
• Experience working within an ambulatory setting preferred
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is active and requires the employee to constantly move about in the office to assist patients, staff and medical providers.

Pay Range: $25.00-$32.00/ based on experience
