Position: Substitute Teacher
Supervisor: Secretary/Principal
General Job Description: To provide short-term or long-term support to schools and students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct the classroom, accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlines in the lesson plans.
- Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times.
- Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality.
- Ensure a sustainable relationship with parents, pupils, school personnel and members of the public by communicating in a confidential, polite and refined manner.
- Reports to the principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school.
- Maintains, as fully possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
- Consults, as appropriate, with the principal or department or grade level head, before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plans.
- Uses appropriate judgement to act in the best interest of students at all times.
- Complies with all District Customer Service policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor or administrator.
- Works with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
- Maintains a classroom environment which promotes active learning.
- Serves as a responsible role model in appearance and conduct.
- Adheres to all health, safety, and sanitation policies of the school district and notifies the proper authorities when repairs or replacements are required in order to maintain established standards.
- Demonstrates cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned by school administration.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the immediate supervisor, the principal and/or the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Good personal hygiene.
- Pleasant and mature individual who can work effectively with students and adults.
- Ability to work as a team member and adjust to frequent changes in work load and conditions.
- Ability to follow requirements, rules, and regulations as set forth in the Substitute handbook.
- Ability to follow requirements, rules, and regulations as set forth by Board Policy.
- Ability to remain “on-call” and be available as needed.
- Ability to perform essential job functions and job task requirements.
- Detail oriented and able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Able to cultivate relationships with students in a brief time period.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving light furniture may be required.
Equipment/Material Handled:
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Safety and Health:
- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
- Knowledge of first aid preferred.
Work Environment:
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
