Description
The Cashier Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Cashier Team. This includes staffing, scheduling, training, and dealing with customer issues that arise. The Cashier Operations Manager is also responsible for ensuring that cashiers deliver stellar customer service and are able to promote membership and Co-op values.
Requirements
Scheduling and Staffing:
Works with HR and Operations Director to conduct interviews and hire appropriate staff
Works with Operations Director to create schedules that ensures customer service within labor budgets
Prepare and posts schedules at least three (3) weeks in advance
Create schedules with the goal of stabilized staffing
Communicate/email cashiers regarding schedule updates and changes.
Adjust schedules as needed
Coordinate the on-call phone-ins with front office
Ensure each cashier has a current Food Handlers Card
Training
Responsible for maintaining up to date training manuals
Ensure new cashiers have completed New Cashier Training Checklist
Ensure cashiers know, understand, and comply with Alcohol Board rules and regulations
Ensure cashiers know how to use the time clock, how to report time clock errors
Keeps cashiers in all areas of the store informed and up-to-date on Catapult/POS issues
Ensures cashiers know and understand patronage refund and membership
Employee Relations
Is fair and even handed with all employees. Applies all rules, staffing decisions, approval of time off etc. equitably and without favoritism
Works as a part of the team on a daily basis
Is responsive to issues that affect employee satisfaction and/or understanding
Respond in a timely manner to employee emails, voice mails, notes and request for time off
Respond to the content of employee issues instead of responding to the emotion, anger, etc. from an employee
Show genuine appreciation to employees
Continually educate employees in product knowledge, environment awareness, safety standards, job skills, life skills and the business of the Co-op
Conduct timely and meaningful performance evaluations
Correct and counsel employees at the moment
Communications with other Departments
Keeps Operations Director, Deli FOH, and Mercantile Manager informed of change in cashier policy; give any updates to seasonal promotions and necessary weekly updates for Deli cashier staff
Work collaboratively with Merchandising Department regarding special promotions, floor displays, in-house coupon promotions
Communicate issues and concerns to Operations Director as necessary
Is an active participant in the Department Head Meeting
Catapult/POS
Respond to technical issues with POS
Perform minor fixes to computers/POS, as instructed by IT Manager
Keep IT Manager, Operations Director and staff informed of Catapult, computer, POS issues
Administrative Responsibilities
Keep Cashier Department organized and efficient
Maintains tidy office space in Cashier Supply Room
Works as an active part of the Cashier team on a daily basis
Co-op Management Standards
Models and encourages excellent customer service
Adheres to all Co-op policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Stay up-to-date on Co-op issues by regularly checking work emails for Co-op communications. Reminds and encourages staff to do the same.
Actively participate and contribute information that is helpful and informative to co-managers regarding sales, new products, etc.
Conduct department meetings as needed
Financial Management
Complete and return missed punch/error reports and PTO request within time frame as provided by the Payroll Administrator
Complete and return all invoices/credits to the accounting department for processing at least twice per week
Use best practices to maintain inventory levels for department (if applicable)
Coordinate directly with Operations Director to develop additional tools that will improve financial management at the departmental level
Understand labor budget
Qualifications and Skills
High School Diploma or GED required
Cashiering and/or financial experience required
Previous leadership/management experience preferred
Ability to model and provide excellent customer service
Ability to diffuse and respond professionally to stressful situations and difficult people
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times
Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision
Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, customers and vendors
Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and preform work in various situations and follow through with projects to completion
Proficient with computers including POS systems and Microsoft Office products
Excellent math skills
Accurate and detail oriented
Ability to maintain current food handler worker card and CPR certification
Must be available to work retail hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
Must be at least 18 years of age
Essential Physical Requirements
Prolonged standing and walking
Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating
Continuous fine motors skills work and gripping with hands
Must be able to meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, repetitive
motion, and lifting 10-40lbs regularly
Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
