Position Overview
The Design Engineer is involved with the design of municipal infrastructure, highways, railways, transit systems, airports, harbors, bridges, tunnels, building, water supply and sewage treatment facilities. The position reports to the Senior Engineer. The Design Engineer must be a team player and have experience in heavy civil construction.
Job Description
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform structural and geotechnical design works by using engineering principles
- Interpret ground conditions from Geotechnical Data reports and understand their impact on design and construction
- Prepare and check calculations and drawings
- Work closely with field engineers on design works
- Act as project engineers for specified projects / tasks
- Attend meetings with clients and Engineers to discuss design issues
- Visit project sites during construction
- Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment and Skanska Safety and Health Management Program

- Strong skills in structural and/or geotechnical for infrastructure projects
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment
- Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Auto CAD & STAAD Pro
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required
- Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals, structural and soil mechanics
- Proficiency in Structural software such as STAAD Pro, RISA or SAP 2000 or Geotechnical software such as CivilTech or PLAXIS and AutoCAD software
