What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Designer position at Sloan?

We manufacture water-efficient products including flush valves, electronic faucets, soap dispensing and sink systems along with vitreous china fixtures for commercial, industrial and institutional markets worldwide.
We have an immediate opening for a Tool Designer. In this role your responsibilities will include the design of all required tooling. From conceptual 3D modeling to final 2D drawings and Bills of Materials for shop fabrication gages, you will detail and design jigs, hydraulic holding fixtures, jaws, tool holders, cutting tools, loaders and tool layouts for various machining methods, like CNC machine centers
Specific responsibilities include:
- Create tool layouts, design cams and cutting tools for machining of brass castings, bar, tubing or similar components.
- Design and detail various types of the assembly fixtures, leak decay equipment, testing equipment, welded and sheet metal fabrications like tables, chip guards, simple safety devices.
- Prepare assembly and detailed drawings with dimensioning and geometric tolerancing in accordance with standards, performing stress calculations.
- Design special assembly and testing equipment for various product assemblies. Design automatic loading devices and machine modification units for special machines.
- Prepare tool layouts for multi-spindle machines, rotary transfer machines, etc., including determining speeds, feeds, gearing, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 5 years experience in tool design
- Familiar with hydraulics, pneumatics, framework, piping, selection and heat treatment of materials, evaluation, and selection of purchased components.
- Proficient in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA).
- The ability to use and apply shop mathematics including geometry, trigonometry, and Machinery’s Handbook formulas as required to complete assignments.
- Proficiency with 3D software like, Solid Works, PTC Creo, or Equivalent.
- Familiarity with 2D software (AutoCAD preferred) and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others to solve problems.
