Monday - Friday 3.5 hours per day - time tbd School Year Calendar Nature and Scope of Work: Definition: Under general supervision, performs manual work relating to the preparation of food, the serving of food, cleaning and sanitizing work areas. Operate the computerized point of sale system & handle cash and check transactions. Provide friendly service to students and adults. Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers.

All other related work as required. Work is indoors, and fast paced with regular exposure to heat and moisture and the extremes of heat and cold; some exposure to the hazard associated with electrical shock and moving and mechanical parts; some exposure to the hazard associated with chemicals and cleaners used in the food service area of the kitchen and cafeteria. Work requires moderate physical effort, continuous standing, lifting and use of commercial food service equipment.Responsibilities: Performs a variety of food service duties including and not limited to: Cashier or server for meal linesAssists in the preparation of a variety of dishes and accompanying menu; items include vegetables, fruits, sandwiches, salads, soup and meats.Prepare and bake a variety of foods in large quantities and within established time constraintsServes food in portions to meet mandated nutritional requirementsArranges food and beverage items for the purpose of serving them to students and staff in an efficient mannerAssists in the preparation of breakfasts/and or lunches by assembling, heating and apportioning food itemsAssists with making sure all students have the required components to qualify for a reimbursable mealAssists in packaging and storing leftoversAssists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.Assists in cleaning lunchroom tables in between lunches if time warrantsRestocks juice and water coolers, paper goods and other such itemsAssists in dish room - cleans pots, pans and utensils in a commercial dishwasher used in food preparationCleans and sanitize any area of the kitchen Counts money from register if neededRotate stock items on a regular basis; keep storeroom, freezer and cooler clean and organizedEmployment Standards: General knowledge of cooking, baking and food preparation and service.Ability to read and follow instructions on labels and recipes.Ability to learn and use institution kitchen equipment.Ability to learn the Point of Sale system.Ability to work efficiently and effectively at a fast pace.Ability to follow simple instructions and skill in performance of non-technical duties involving cleaning-up and serving of food.Ability to work in a professional, friendly manner with co-workers, school staff and students.QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: Education and Experience: Basic math skills necessary for preparation of recipes; high school education preferred; some commercial or domestic in cooking, baking and/or cleaning; or any combination or education and experience.Serve-Safe certified or certifiable.Abilities Required: Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environmentPerforms prescribed activities efficiently with limited supervisionReacts productively to interruptions and changing conditionsEffectively uses verbal, nonverbal, writing and listening skillsCompletes paperwork accurately. Verifies and correctly enters dataMaintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctualCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable: Must be neat in appearance and adhere to the dress code of the departmentMust be able to work in a fast past work environment where time is of the essenceDuties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.Duties may require working extended hours.Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.Duties may require wearing protective clothing and using safety equipment.Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.Potential for exposure to temperature extremes.Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, odors, and wet floors.Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.Potential for interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals.Must be able to manage stress, multi-task, maintain positive work relationshipsMust be able to work in varying degrees of noise, temperature and air qualityPhysical Requirements: Manual dexterity requiredMust be able to work in a hot kitchen, standing for long periods of time (cooking)The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in operating a cash register and serving food with utensils.Must be able to lift 50lbs to head level, when requiredMust be able to kneel, squat, bend and walk without limitationsMust possess the ability to communicate effectivelyThe employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand for periods of time while performing the duties of this job.

The employees will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion many times as in operating a cash register and serving food utensils. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs at a time. While performing the duties of this job the employee occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.

Possess physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure fast-paced conditions. Be able to work in a cold or hot conditions.
