GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY Generally includes responsibility for operating one or more pieces of production equipment. Perform a variety of food packaging duties in the production of Ham and/or by-product products for distribution, including (but not limited to) operating a saw to cut product per Customer Specification. NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION This is an hourly paid position, generally involving the operation of specified equipment in accordance with established standards and in accordance with machinery manufacturer specifications. Position product on the belt for the ABS saw using the laser as a guide for proper product positioning. Authority of incumbents is limited to proper machine operation, as directed by production management, and includes authority (and responsibility) to ensure safe operation, full compliance with GMP’s and a quality product meeting all company standards. Moderate to close supervision provided. PRINCIPAL DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Arrives at work on or before scheduled start time daily to check area for proper housekeeping, equipment safeties and safeguards, proper tools and other equipment/supplies, and to ensure that applicable machinery is set-up and functioning properly. Communicates/coordinates with other employees to ensure uninterrupted flow of product. Qualified and Trained to perform Lock Out Tag Out on the ABS, Slab, Blade-stop and 5 saw. By-product lines Saw Operator may also include but not limited to: Grasseli, Shank saw, Neckbone Chunker, and Grote. Responsible for setting the thickness for the roasts (Slab saw cut) and the steaks (5 saw cuts) and adjusting these cuts accordingly per WIP code and product specification. By-products responsibility to set thickness on Grasseli and Grote per Product Specifications. Able to perform setup of the 5 saw, slab saw, blade-stop and ABS saws. By-products also setup Grote, Shank saw, Neckbone Chunker and Grasseli. Required to be able to cut 18 portion hams per minute. Be able to lift, push, pull or roll product weighing up to 40 pounds continuously. Monitors machine operation and settings, makes appropriate adjustments to ensure standards set by management are adhered to and to minimize/eliminate waist; contacts supervisor to resolve difficulties beyond what incumbent is trained/authorized to handle. Position product on the saw belt (for portions use the laser to ensure the ham is cut in the correct location) per product specification. For portions precisely measure the angle of the shank to avoid downgrading of product. Wears uniform and personal protective equipment as required and/or provided by the company (e.g., hearing protection, gloves, hair/beard restraint, bump cap, respiratory protection, goggles, etc.); shuts off machinery before clearing jams, ensures equipment lockout procedures is used prior to doing any cleaning or adjustment/repair which requires safety guards to be removed or which may expose employees to injury through inadvertent movement of machine parts. Completes all company-required paperwork to document periodic quality checks, to account for product produced and to provide other records as required by the company, such as 5 saw operational check. Read schedule follow product changes to ensure the proper cuts per Customer Specification Communicate all information regarding mechanical issues to Supervisor and maintenance. Associate will be continuously exposed to temperatures ranging from 20 to 40 degrees. Keeps equipment and area clean during production run; is alert to slip – trip – fall hazards in area, takes any required action to eliminate/minimize the potential for accidents. Communicates regularly with supervision regarding problems and suggestions, reports unsafe conditions immediately. Assists in other phases of production as directed by supervision. Maintain good personal hygiene. Follow all Safety and Food Safety policies/procedures. Follow instructions from Line Lead and all members of Management QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge/Skills: Must have knowledge of the Aitch Bone location inside a portion ham and how the Aitch bone is positioned from the butt to the shank. Knowledge of various by-products saws and different cuts. Qualified to perform Lock out tag out. Experience/Education: No experience is needed ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Must have sufficient visual acuity to set-up machinery and to monitor machine operation and product flow; must have manual dexterity to move safely in an area of automated equipment; must have manual dexterity to accommodate machine adjustments.
