Job Opening: Independent Living Coordinator

At Society's Assets, we’re looking for a compassionate Independent Living Coordinator who is dedicated to empowering individuals to live as independently as possible. We support people of all ages and disabilities, and we believe that lived experience, relevant education, and prior work experience all contribute to making someone an excellent fit for this role.

Key Details:

  • Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Location: Primary area will be focusing on Jefferson County. You will help establish office sites in that area for you to work from. Living in the Whitewater and/or Jefferson area would be helpful to you.
  • Our main office is in Racine (Green Bay Road & Washington Ave).
  • Travel: Some travel to appointments required (mileage reimbursed). Personal transportation needed.
  • Additional Pay: Extra compensation for American Sign Language proficiency.

Your Role: As an Independent Living Coordinator, you’ll have the rewarding opportunity to:

  • Deliver and coordinate essential Independent Living Services, including skills training, advocacy, peer support, nursing home transitions, assistive technology, and accessibility services.
  • Provide the guidance and support people with disabilities need to navigate systems and find community resources that can change their lives.
  • Empower individuals to achieve greater independence by assisting with daily living skills, self-advocacy, and community integration.
  • Bring a compassionate, person-centered approach to every interaction, making sure each client feels respected, heard, and supported on their journey to independence.

Qualifications:

  • A deep commitment to advocating for individuals with disabilities and enhancing their quality of life.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and lived experience.
  • Strong knowledge of local resources and community networks, with a focus on building supportive relationships.
  • Understanding of disability rights, Independent Living philosophy, and the service systems available to individuals with disabilities.
  • Comfort and skill in delivering presentations and training groups with kindness and empathy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a desire to connect with others in a meaningful way.
  • Must have an insured vehicle and a valid driver’s license, or the ability to arrange transportation.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language or Spanish is a plus!
