THE POSITION

Office Assistant II is the Journey level of the Office Assistant series. Â Applicants must possess general clerical skills. Â The incumbent will perform complex and/or routine clerical tasks in support of the department or division to which assigned. Incumbents apply specialized knowledge of departmental, work unit and program procedures, services and methods.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

Experience And Education Requirements

Education/Experience:Â High school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by six (6) months of full-time work experience that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.

Other Requirements

Applicants are required to demonstrate basic word processing skills and a net typing speed of forty (40) words per minute. Demonstration of these skills will be done during an online skills exam.

SELECTION PROCESS

8/01/2025 - Deadline to submit application and any required documentation.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant's ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. Information contained herein does not constitute either an expressed or implied contract.

A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process, unless otherwise announced. All potential new hires and employees considered for promotion to management, confidential positions or unrepresented positions will be subject to a background and reference check after contingent job offer is accepted. Â These provisions are subject to change.

The County is offering skills testing at no cost, for applicants/current Solano County employees only, for the Office Assistant II recruitment.

If applicants already possess a valid certificate, a copy must be submitted by the final filing deadline.

Certification materials submitted to a prior recruitment will not be applied to this recruitment.Â

Certificate Requirements

Typing Certificate Requirements: The typing certificate must contain a minimum NET speed of (40) words per minute. It must be a timed 3-5 minute test, include the gross number of words typed per minute, and the number of errors. It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application and must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency with an examiner's signature. Certificates obtained through the internet (online) will not be accepted.Â

Applicants that have participated in prior Solano County skills testing must contact recruitment@solanocounty.gov by the final filing deadline to request their prior results be applied to this recruitment - this will not be done automatically. Prior results cannot be more than 12 months old at the time of application.Â

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DEADLINE. Applicants who have a service-connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service-connected reasons. Â

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general under conditions discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran's preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
