What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Solar Installer position at Solar Gain, Inc?
Work Environment:
Installers perform their work primarily outdoors where they’re exposed to all weather conditions, oftentimes in extreme heat on building rooftops.
Safety:
This position is categorized as SAFETY SENSITIVE as it includes exposure to extreme weather conditions while working on rooftops operating heavy equipment and tools. This position may at times require work on or near electrical equipment that is energized (1000V direct current (DC Systems) poses the risk of electric shock or arc flash. Installers must be able to comprehend and apply safe installation practices, always alert, and identify and report safety hazards.
Requirements

Adhere to Solar Gain and OSHA safety standards

Ensure that layout, roof attachments, racking and module assembly, jbox installation, home run wiring, and voltage testing meets expected quality standards

Complete electrical wiring of solar array (AC and DC)

Problem solve system layouts when design specifications require adjustment

Stage materials and tools and load vans
-
Perform quality roof penetrations

Assemble racking, mounting systems and modules per specification

Ground and wire the modules

Assist with general ground support

Assist with general site preparation and clean up

Install ground mount racking systems

Complete trenching work as assigned.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be considered.

High school or GED required. Associates degree or higher is preferred.

Professional appearance, clean driving record with valid driver’s license is required.

At least one year of roof work, general construction, or carpentry is preferred.

Knowledge of Solar Energy Storage Systems is preferred

Working with electrical components is a plus.
- OSHA 10 certification is desired.
Physical Requirements:
The essential functions of this position require physical agility. Installers must be able to climb ladders, or stairs, to work on rooftops where they’ll be standing for prolonged periods of time. They must use a full range of mobility in both the upper and lower body. Having appropriate visual, verbal and hearing acuity to follow and give instructions, operate machinery and equipment, and determine the accuracy of the assigned work is critical to avoiding accidents.
Working at heights on buildings 30’ or higher, working near edges without parapets expose installers to dangers, particularly falls caused by tripping hazards or lack of alertness.
Working with heavy equipment and tools: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, comprehends verbal instructions, maintains emotional stability, employs critical thinking, adaptability, and creative problem-solving skills.
