What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Service Coordinator position at SOME (So Others Might Eat)?
SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. We strive to provide success paths toward mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training and employment with a living wage, affordable housing, and ultimately living independently and confidently.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a full-time Service Coordinator for our Single Adult Housing department, Rev. G. Smith House location.
Position Description: The Service Coordinator will provide case management support to residents and provide guidance to assist residents with actively solving daily challenges and increasing personal development.
The Service Coordinator MUST be able to work evenings as needed for events, community meetings, and evening appointments - a minimum of one late evening per week is required; working some holidays (as assigned) on a rotating basis is required.
Qualifications:
Required: High School Diploma; 5-8 years experience in social services and/or working with homeless or substance abuse, with extensive experience and understanding of mental illness; experience with Motivational Interviewing is a PLUS!
Required License/Certification: CPR and First Aid certification; Valid Driver's License
Schedule: Monday, - Friday: 9:00am - 5:30pm (*One late evening shift is expected) **Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for training and activities.**
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for motivational enhancement interviewing.
- Ability to adjust one's actions in relation to other's actions.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and individualized services. This includes understanding residents' needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating of satisfaction.
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance.
- Ability to be sensitive to diverse backgrounds and set aside personal opinions and implicit biases. This includes their basic principles, values, ethics, ways of thinking, customs, practices, and their impact on human culture.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar with the ability to write effective goal plans.
- Ability to educate and teach residents how to access and utilize community resources
- Ability to perform and complete an accurate resident assessment and effectively document residents' progress towards goals.
- Ability to educate and teach residents how to access and utilize community resources.
- Ability to set professional boundaries
Expected Contributions:
- Case Management: Provide ongoing case management and referrals to residents as needed utilizing the strength-based approach to individualize care. Perform intakes, annual assessments i.e. psycho-social, career assessment and know how to incorporate findings into case management services. Utilize MET during consultations and a strength-based approach. Develop wellness plans with residents and follow documentation standards set by SAH. Complete and file progress notes in a timely manner
Assist residents in obtaining job training, higher education, employment, money management, financial literacy, and other supportive services. - Community Development: Assist the team with the development of educational groups and coordinate events for residents.
- Program Administration: Complete and submit serious incident reports as needed
Record unusual incidents, problems, violations of house guidelines, and maintenance repairs; submit incident reports as required. Enforce rules and regulations in the lease and the Guidelines for community living. Serve as backup support in the absence of the Program Manager.
