Sports Equipment Movers - PT

Somerset Valley YMCA provides a progressive and competitive Gymnastics Program in which athletes can reach their full potential through the Y's nurturing style of coaching. Our competitive Gymnastics Program has placed at states and worlds competitions because of the dedication of our gymnasts and coaches.

Somerset Valley YMCA is seeking Sports Equipment Staff to assist with the setup and tear-down of our gymnastics equipment in preparation for regular practices, meets, and classes. Applicants should be confident in lifting heavy equipment in excess of 35lbs, executing team lifts, have superior communication skills, and a good eye for safety and risk management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Equipment Staff are responsible for working together as a team to set up and/or tear down our program equipment within designated time blocks. Being able to lift heavy objects is a must and coordination and muscle memory is important in this role. The desire to learn about our programs is definitely helpful to understand the impact this position has on the overall operaiton.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Must be at minimum 16 years old
• Should have experience working in a team setting 
• Must be outgoing, friendly, and welcoming to children and adults. 
• Should have excellent communication skills 
• Needs to think quickly and be able to adapt to change 
• Must be alert and able to identify and prevent any safety concerns quickly and without fear or hesitation. 
• Must be able and willing to get CPR, First Aid, and AED certified 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Ability to verbally share information and to convey detailed, spoken instructions to staff and volunteers accurately, quickly, and loudly. 
• Ability to perceive the nature of sounds by ear.
• Ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds - setting up heavy equipment.
• Ability to move about on foot quickly; ability kneel, crouch and crawl. 
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where they actually are and clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.

HOURS:

Hours vary based on the needs of the program and specific team groups. Gymnastics teams will practice most days of the week and various shifts are available. Please share your availability in your application to see if it matches with our needs.
