TYPE: Classified STATUS: Non-Exempt SALARY: ($12.15, 11-month position, Full Benefit Package) WORK CALENDAR: 235 Day, 8 hours per day. START DATE: August 2021
REPORTS TO: School Principal & Director of Buildings and Grounds Maintenance
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs duties to keep assigned grounds and custodial areas cleaned and maintained for Somerton School District No. 11.
TASKS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Maintains campus, school site and/or District grounds.
Plants, waters, cultivate, weeds, fertilizes, cuts and trims lawns, shrubs, trees and flowerbeds.
Installs, maintains and repairs sprinkler and irrigation systems.
Picks up trash.
Removes debris.
Utilizes machinery such as a bobcat, trench diggers, tractors, mowers and related grounds equipment.
Sprays for weeds and insects as required.
Sweeps sidewalks.
Assists with custodial duties as needed and performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of grounds keeping and custodial practices, procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of proper methods, techniques, materials, equipment and tools used in grounds and custodial work.
Knowledge of common plants, shrubs, trees and grasses.
Knowledge of cleaning methods for floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of proper safety precautions for chemicals and cleaning supplies used in grounds and custodial work.
Skill in installing, maintaining and repairing sprinkler systems.
Skill in safely using and maintaining equipment and tools to complete assigned projects.
Skill in cleaning and maintaining school sites, facilities and grounds.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in working cooperatively with others.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments.
Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
May be exposed to moving equipment, extreme weather conditions, heights, toxic fumes and chemicals, and infectious diseases.
QUALFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years grounds keeping or landscape maintenance experience. Must possess an Arizona driver license. Demonstrate fluency in English. Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) required at the time of hiring. Must provide verifiable work experience with groundskeeping or landscaping skills.
